I have been encouraged by the number of favorable responses I have received to THE FRUIT OF THE FALLEN. Everyone who has read the book has honestly said they really enjoyed it. Most even say that they loved it! I perceive the small surprise in their voice, as if they were expecting a good effort, but one they almost expected to fall short of the modern day best-sellers currently gracing the brick and mortar bookshelves. I enjoy the honest enthusiasm they convey when confessing to me their expectations and am glad they enjoyed reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
But self-publishing is an uphill and lonely battle. I have toiled to produce a book I hoped could stand among the bestsellers of today. I believe I accomplished this. The feedback I have received thus far supports this. So how do I get the book to into the hands of readers? The sad truth is bookstores are hesitant to touch it. I can’t blame them really. I am one of thousands of unknown, independent authors who believe he has written the next Da Vinci Code. How can I convince them that mine is actually better than other self-published works, one that it is actually worth considering? My small, inaudible voice does not have a chance of being heard in the chaotic cacophony world of publishing alone.
Patience. I must have patience. My book was published in January, and was made available to my small circle of readers in March. It is now only April. It is too soon to begin worrying about mass distribution, right? But I am impatient. I want my book in the hands of thousands- no, hundreds of thousands of readers today.
How can this be accomplished? I am currently considering taking on a partner to help with marketing and distribution. I am having a book trailer produced. I have ten copies out to independent reviewers who will soon praise and condemn my hard work online. I am planning a summer marketing spree where I will work twenty hours a day if I have to finding readers and convincing retailers. But the most important element is out of my hands. My small voice is just that, small. I need the help of my readers. Each voice added, each personal recommendation shared online and person to person, each comment made increases my, no our, chances of being heard.
I invite my readers to share. Share with your family, friends, your colleagues and neighbors the true merit of THE FRUIT OF THE FALLEN and encourage them to order their own copy. Then they will share and so on and so on until the time comes when our voices together will have the power to attract the attention of the decision makers. THE FRUIT OF THE FALLEN needs a grassroots campaign fueled by personal testaments and conviction. Then our voices, together, will make the difference.
